NEWS FROM ESCOT
By the time you read this Rev David Carrington, our new vicar, will have been licensed by Bishop Nick, the Bishop of Plymouth. The service is full of symbolism with the new vicar being taken to different areas of the church, being presented with a bible and oil and tolling the bell. It’s a good thing the service is not at Escot as we’d have problems with that! Although the service is taking place at Feniton, members of all three congregations, Feniton, Payhembury and Escot are all taking a significant part in it so he will truly be welcomed by and involved with all of us.
Rev David’s first service at Escot will be Parish Communion at 9am on August 12th when I hope we will have a good congregation to welcome him. Please do join us if you can.
Over the last month we have had two weddings at Escot, very different but both beautiful in their own way. The first one had the church decorated all in green with beech trees both inside and outside the church and the whole of the back of the church filled with pots of many plants from foxgloves to strawberries. It looked very unusual but the bridal party matched it with the bride in a flowing white dress with a garland of flowers in her hair and the groom, best man and ushers in yellow trousers and sports jackets. The second was much more conventional with beautiful flower arrangements and the bride also looking beautiful. Both were lucky in that the weather was perfect so our beautiful church will have featured as a backdrop to many photographs.
To give you very advance warning, we are intending to hold a Harvest Supper as normal this year, the likely date being Friday 26th October so please keep the date free. More details will follow nearer the time.
Wishing you all happy holidays in this glorious weather,
