May I start by wishing you a very happy new year!
Looking back on last year, as always it seems to have been very busy. In August we welcomed our new vicar Rev David Carrington and his wife Dawn. From our point of view Dave has settled in well and those of us closely involved with services appreciate working with him and his involving us in any proposed changes. At the end of January we are having a combined meeeting of the PCCs from all three churches and we look forward to seeing what will come from that. We celebrated two weddings and two baptisms with a total of four people being baptised. Happily we had no funerals though we had several interments of ashes.
All last year we were fundraising hard for our new boiler. Events included one of our soup lunches, the snowdrop weekend and refreshments at Helen Brown's snowdrop day, our flower and quilt festival, harvest supper although that is not meant to be a fundraiser, and of course our regular whist drives which provide an ongoing source of finance. As I write all of last year's expenses have not come in and so I do not know the accurate financial position but we have certainly made a significant profit. We have submitted an application for permission to replace the boilerso hope to proceed early in 2019. The £10,000 required will more than account for any profit we made last year! The importance of replacing the boiler was emphasised one Sunday last month when the boiler failed to fire up and the church was very cold. Hopefully it was a one-off and we'll have no more problems over the next few weeks.
This year's snowdrop weekend is on February 16th and 17th when the church will be open from 10am to 4pm on both days with a range of delicious snacks available all day including cheese scones in the morning, hot soup over lunch time and cream teas in the afternoon. We hope to have a display of our kneelers with an associated quiz, and of course our registers will be on display for anyone seeking family information.
I shall conclude as I started by wishing you a very happy new year.
