Dear Friends,
I never cease to be amazed, when visiting village Plant and Flower Shows at the skill of the participants, but also the wonder of the produce itself. Enormous vegetables, beautiful blooms with vibrant colours and the skill of the bakers and artists etc.
When everything looks bleak, prices are rising, the news is depressing all we need to do to lift our spirits is to look around us at the wonders of nature. We have been blessed this year in our garden with an abundance of beautiful butterflies and moths; peacocks, painted ladies, small tortoiseshells, red admirals, small whites and garden tigers to name just a few. Apart from the fact that the caterpillars, of some of them, have eaten all my leaf beet, it has been beautiful to see them flying around, perching on our buddleia and enjoying the snatches of sunshine. I am amazed at the variety, but the intricacy of the markings on their wings, such dainty spots and streaks of colour, such perfection in what some people may see as just an insignificant if not annoying creature.
These butterflies and moths are important, they are part of a food chain and they are also great indicators of what is happening to our environment. They are all a treasured part of God’s creation and they are truly beautiful as is all of nature if we only stop to look at it carefully.
I suppose I have been more aware of the butterflies this year as they do seem to be diminishing in numbers and the fact that we have had an abundance of them has made me take not, also I’m really interested in them. But isn’t that just like human nature we only really notice something when it’s gone, we only notice an absence rather than a presence. I wonder why that is? Do we just get used to things that we don’t really appreciate what we have got?
That’s the wonderful thing about God’s love it is always there for us, but do we then just take it for granted, do we not stop to think about what that truly means? I think looking around and enjoying God’s creation is a way of seeing His love for us and all creation, so take time to pause and enjoy what’s around us it really is amazing..
Every blessing, Rev. Cate
